As part of our ongoing international relationship with East Java through the Western Australia-East Java Sister State initiative, we recently welcomed two delegations from Indonesia to Perth – sharing insights into our programs, best practices, and support models for individuals with Autism and their families; and enjoying plenty of opportunities for professional collaboration.
In recognition of the 35ᵗʰ anniversary of the Sister State initiative, we received a visit from a sport diplomacy contingent to discuss inclusion in sport, with our Autism in Cricket Program being a major talking point.
We then hosted a group of paediatric dentists from the Paediatric Dentistry Specialist Program at the Universitas Airlangga – a study-based visit focusing on dental health care and services for children with Autism in Western Australia, and including a comprehensive overview of the supports we provide.Â
During their time with us, the group also took a tour of our Optus Stadium Sensory Room created together with Purple Hands Foundation; and the Curtin University Oral Health Clinic, home of our partnership Oral Health Familiarisation Clinics.
These visits mark another milestone in our relationship with East Java, following our earlier visit to Indonesia to deliver an intensive masterclass to alumni, teachers, and health professionals. We look forward to welcoming further visitors from East Java and traveling there again in the future as we continue to support the development of Autism best practices in Australia and overseas.
