Connecting, Acting and Growing Together for World Autism Month
This April we recognised World Autism Month – acknowledging the strengths, achievements and uniqueness of people on the Autism spectrum while coming together as a community to make lasting change.
A Meaningful Month
There were many ways to connect, act and grow throughout the month: taking part in our Light Up the Spectrum trail, making a mark on our Community Wall, sharing knowledge and building understanding, hosting fundraising events and more!
It was fantastic to see the community getting involved, and we would like to thank each and every person who joined us in recognising the month.
Take a look at some of the highlights from this year’s World Autism Month below.
Lighting Up the Spectrum Across the State
World Autism Day on 2nd April saw our biggest and brightest Light Up the Spectrum night ever light up locations and landmarks across metro and regional WA in a rainbow of colours.
We partnered with 60 sites around Perth to illuminate our State – and even lit up locations across the nation! Here are some fun facts from the night:
- 60 locations lit up over 1,973km
- Port Hedland = our most northern location
- Albany = our most southern location
- 7 new locations joined the trail
- Locations in Melbourne and Sydney took part
In preparation for the event, we created a map listing all locations and a sensory guide for taking on the trail.
A big thank you goes out to everyone who took on the trail and shared snapshots along the way, or who followed along on socials. We would also like to thank all participating locations for making the event an unforgettable experience.
You can relive Light Up the Spectrum 2026 in our colourful compilation video.
Our Community Wall
This year we introduced our Community Wall: a space for everyone to share and acknowledge journeys and show support for Autistic individuals and their families across Western Australia.
Your messages on the wall throughout April helped contribute to building a future where Autistic people are not only accepted, but celebrated for their uniqueness and for who they are.
See how some of you made your mark below – and if you haven’t already left a message and would like to, visit our World Autism Month page.
Community Celebrations for a Cause
Schools, organisations and businesses from across the State acknowledged Autism Month by brightening up their classrooms, offices and workwear with the colours of the spectrum and downloading and sharing our Autism Month resources.
Chung Wah Community Care held a donation ceremony at the beginning of April as part of both their Chinese New Year and Autism Month celebrations, generously donating funds raised in the lead-up to the Autism Association; while Cyril Jackson Senior Campus Education Support Centre got involved by running a fundraising Easter egg guessing game on Autism Day – an egg-cellent way to show their support!
Thank you to everyone who organised or contributed to an Autism Month fundraiser. Your support is greatly appreciated.
If you would still like to donate, it’s not too late! Visit our Autism Month page below.
How Our Teams Marked the Month
Across our therapy hubs throughout April, individuals and families were welcomed with colourful displays and equally colourful staff dressed in every shade on the spectrum.
Our teams also recognised Autism Month by hosting morning teas and arranging activities, like creating a handprint tree highlighting what makes each individual unique; and a field of flowers blooming with the ways they planned to connect with the people they support, take action towards inclusion, and grow in their role during Autism Month and beyond.
And just like that, World Autism Month 2026 has come to an end! We loved seeing you all connect, act and grow together with us during the month.
If you still have an Autism Month moment to share, it’s not too late: tag us on social media or email your photos and stories to us here.
